SOCIAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Social Studies Department, where we embark on exciting journeys through history, society, and culture!

The Social Studies Department at Annie Walsh School is a dynamic and engaging hub for learning, offering courses in Social Studies, Civic Education, and Religious and Moral Studies. The department provides students with hands-on learning experiences, including annual field trips in February. These trips allow students to explore significant sites such as the Mile 38 quarries, the John Obey mountains, and the fishing projects in Tombo, integrating real-world knowledge with the curriculum.

In addition to field trips, the department organizes visits to key national institutions, including Parliament and the Judiciary, giving students a deeper understanding of the workings of the state. The curriculum also covers both national and international events, emphasizing the roles and responsibilities of citizens and non-citizens alike.

The department fosters student engagement through active participation in inter-school quizzes and competitions, training students to represent the school with excellence. Collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Monument and Relics Commission further enriches the department’s offerings, ensuring students receive a well-rounded education in social studies.

LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the Languages Department, where we nurture students’ linguistic skills.

The Languages Department at Annie Walsh School is dedicated to cultivating language proficiency and cultural understanding. The department offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers Language Arts, Krio, and French. In each of these subjects, students engage in a well-rounded study of grammar, literature, and poetry, helping them to master both the technical and creative aspects of language.

Beyond classroom instruction, the department provides a range of extracurricular activities, including language clubs that encourage students to practice and immerse themselves in their chosen languages. The literacy and debating clubs further enhance students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and argumentation skills.

Additionally, the department prepares students for various language-based competitions, including quiz contests and debating events, where they can showcase their language abilities and represent the school.

Through these engaging activities, the Languages Department fosters not only academic growth but also confidence and cross-cultural communication, equipping students with the skills needed for success in a globalized world.
